Reviews and confirms demographic data collected during the registration process. Reviews daily census and visits in-house patients to provide financial counseling; issues payor denials; assist with outside agencies to ensure coverage; and/or ensure proper document signage prior to patient discharge. Collects co-pays for emergency room patients.
Requirements:
- High School or GED
- 1 to 3 years experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to type 35 wpm
Major Responsibilities:
- Monitors in-house census to identify self pay admits from previous day. Visits all self-pay patient admissions to determine payor source; discuss financial arrangements; or advise of payment alternatives for services.
- Identifies accounts eligible for state or federal aid. Assists in completion of applications for federal; state; local; or in-house financial assistance programs.
- Verifies number of benefit days available for all Medicare admissions.
- Works with pre-certification department and utilization review to issue notices of non-coverage for all payors and/or lifetime reserve notices to Medicare beneficiaries.
- Provides estimates to patients or physicians as requested.
- Provides updated information on payor source to Utilization Review and Pre-certification Department to ensure proper authorizations and medical reviews.
- Reviews prior accounts history and identifies outstanding balances; informs the patient and establishes a payment plan. Documents all transactions and updates information using the Patient Accounting System.
- Follows up with patients for necessary signatures if they were incomplete at the time of emergency room registration or hospitalization.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of Medicaid eligibility and Financial Assistance requirements.
- Collects emergency room co-pays from patients and issues receipts using Patient Accounting System. Confirms accurate demographic information.
